Music with a Latin beat!
Meet Surcari
Surcari (a combination of two words: Suramérica and Caribbean) is an award-winning performance group originally from Chile, Venezuela, and Puerto Rico under the musical direction of multi-award-winning guitarist Lorena Garay. As their name suggests, they play a mixture of South American and Caribbean music.
Infectious with their stage performance, the band is riveting in every way. Their multicultural performances engage audiences of all ages as they are introduced to irresistible instrumental and vocal music from South & Central America, the Spanish Caribbean, the Andes, Mexico, and Spain!
The versatile members of Surcari are multi-instrumentalists who play a wide variety of traditional and exotic indigenous instruments! Surcari's extensive repertoire is drawn from the group's artistic influences, which include Latin, flamenco, classical, Andean and Latin jazz.
Surcari’s self-titled album, Surcari, won Third place for Best South and Central American Album at the 2009 Just Plain Folks Independent Music Awards. In 2018, Surcari received the Young Audiences Arts For Learning Connecticut's 2018 Performing Artist of the Year Award.
Their multicultural shows for children are booked through Arts For Learning Connecticut. Surcari is on the Creative Ground roster, a project of the New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA).

What the critics say
“New Artists Surcari-Music of South America brought the house, (chapel really), down! The guitars, pan pipes, flutes, rain sticks and other instruments created a sound that truly engaged the audience in moving to the music and tapping their feet."
ARTSPLASH! Newsletter
“This show rocked, it really did. The music just never stopped and as I sat in the back of the room watching, I was impressed with how intent these kids were on the music and the performers (Surcari) - they clapped, moved around on their bottoms or rocked back and forth in place.”
Hartford Courant
“Un gran concierto del grupo Surcari, con una fascinante mezcla de ritmos de los Andes y el Caribe.”
Identidad Latina
“Trío Surcari: La armónica unión musical del altiplano con el caribe.”
